After the anxiety of the last couple of years with the COVID-19 pandemic, Greg and Cara Green know that a little de-stressing is likely in order for most residents of Garden Oaks, Oak Forest and other local neighborhoods.

It was with that idea of making personal care and decompression affordable and convenient to their neighbors that they decided to become franchisees for a national spa chain that set up shop in the area late last month.

The Greens opened the Oak Forest Hand & Stone Spa at 2009 W. 34th St. Suite B to the community on Oct. 25.

“It’s a place that people can get away without having to leave the neighborhood,” Cara Green said.

The Hand & Stone in Oak Forest brings professional massage services, including Swedish, Himalayan Salt, sports, deep tissue, oncology and prenatal massages. Guests can also try their hot stone massage and facial treatments, with services available for women, men and teenagers.

Hand & Stone also offers skincare and spa services that incorporate new technologies in efforts to enhance each guest’s overall experience, such as a Decompression Therapy massage, Dermal infusion facial, NuFACE microcurrent facial and an LED Phototherapy facial along with CBD oil enhancements.

“I’ve been here for a long time, but the limitation for me is that it’s just a two-man team (with me and my massage therapist). We can only help so many people – and this is a natural extension of what I’m already doing,” said Greg Green, who also runs Green Chiropractic less than a block away. “It felt like a way to help more people with similar services to what’s been offered all the time – there’s just more of it.”

Green also said the Oak Forest community simply needed a place for residents to be able to decompress from the hustle and bustle of the workday and all of the stress presented during the pandemic, which served as the driving force behind deciding to take the plunge.

“As active members of the community, Cara and I think this area is a perfect match for the kind of services we provide at Hand & Stone," he said. "Plus, after the stress of the last couple of years, we could all use a little pampering in our lives. … The Oak Forest area just needs something like this. A lot of people are still working from home, so people are looking for a way to de-stress and work out the kinks that are inherent to sitting in front of a computer all day and not moving around as much.”

The area is their home, and Cara said the goal is to make the community as comfortable as possible.

“We live here, we have our school here, and our multiple businesses here," she said. "This is our home, so we wanted a place that we’d want to be as well.”

Oak Forest Hand & Stone Spa is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m-9 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. For more information about Hand & Stone’s massage and facial services such as pricing or to schedule an appointment, community members can call 713-955-3450 or visit their website at handandstoneoakforest.com.
