Houston Public Works is asking residents to turn off their automatic home sprinkler systems through Feb. 28 while offering potential prizes in return.

According to the city, grass is dormant in the winter and does not need regular watering.

Residents can complete a seven-question online survey at bit.ly/wintersprinkler to let the city know they have turned off their sprinkler system. Once the form has been submitted, residents will be entered in a drawing to win potential prizes that include a 50-gallon rain barrel, a FLUME monitor device to track water usage and soil moisture meters.
