Houston BCycle, the bike-sharing program with several stations in the Heights area, is offering free 30-minute rides on Saturday and Sunday as the city begins recovering from a winter storm that brought freezing temperatures, snowfall and widespread power outages.

Although temperatures are expected to dip again Friday night - to at or near freezing - the forecast for Saturday and Sunday calls for at least some sunshine and daytime temperatures in the 50s and 60s.

"As most of the snow continues to melt and temperatures slowly rise, we all deserve some joy this weekend," Houston BCycle said in a Friday news release.

Free 30-minute rides can be obtained by downloading the BCycle mobile app and using the promo code "HTXSTRONG" or by using the promo code "2021" at a BCycle station. The promotion includes the use of electric bikes at no additional charge.

There are nine BCycle stations in the Heights and Washington Avenue areas, with more to the east and south of those locales.
