A 15-year-old boy is in a hospital after being shot in the legs outside an Independence Heights convenience store Thursday evening, according to a news release from the Houston Police Department.

HPD said the boy was in stable condition when taken to a hospital.

HPD said officers responded to Next Door Food Mart at 8402 N. Main St. just before 6:30 p.m. Thursday to find the boy with gunshot wounds to both of his legs. The shooter fled the scene in an older-model, four-door sedan that is tan or silver in color, according to police.

There was no known description of the shooter or motive as of Friday, according to HPD.
