Authorities say they are investigating a single-car crash near the intersection of U.S. 290 and Fairbanks North Houston Road that resulted in the death of the driver last week.

The victim, 35-year-old Marcus Sam, was pronounced dead at an area hospital, according to the Houston Police Department.

According to HPD, Sam was driving his Chevy Tahoe in the far right lane – with the flow of traffic due to a previous unrelated crash – at 14100 Northwest Fwy. just before 9 p.m. April 2. Police said he then accelerated and attempted to cross from the far right lanes to the far left lanes when traffic opened up before losing control and flipping several times. Sam was ejected from the vehicle during the accident, according to police.

HPD said an investigation into the crash is ongoing.
