Grades 3-6 will perform Disney's Moana Jr. on July 31 and Aug. 1 at HITS Theatre.

It’s a safe assumption to say many people haven’t seen a live musical in over a year. With theaters closed or at limited capacity, there haven’t been that many options in the area.

HITS Theatre, 311 W. 18th St., welcomed audiences back into its theater at full capacity last weekend when elementary students performed Disney’s Moana Jr.

On Saturday and Sunday, audiences will have another chance to experience live theater as well, as students in grades 7-12 perform the same play. And at the beginning of August, third through sixth graders will perform it.

The theater’s last summer play will be the high school edition of Chicago, performed by grades 7-12, and showcasing Aug. 7-8.
