A man trying to break up a fight was hospitalized after being shot in the back near an Acres Homes convenience store last weekend, according to the Houston Police Department.
Police said the victim, 64-year-old Johnny Newsome, was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.
Witnesses told police that Newsome had attempted to break up a fight between several women outside the Sunco Marketplace gas station and convenience store at 8015 De Priest St. just after 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, when he was shot multiple times in the back, according to HPD. The suspected shooter, described only as a Black man by HPD, then fled the scene in a car of an unknown make and model, police said.
