Houston police say a man died during a shootout with officers at an area hotel last weekend.
The man, 35-year-old Irvin Peterson, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Houston Police Department.
HPD said officers responded to the Palace Inn at 3421 Antoine Dr. just after 11 p.m. July 18 in response to a call from Peterson, who police said was allegedly threatening to kill other people and responding officers.
As officers responded, police said Peterson allegedly shot and killed a man and woman while wounding two other men. The identities of the man and woman are pending verification by the county’s medical examiner, while the other two men went to the hospital with what police called non-life-threatening injuries.
According to HPD, Peterson allegedly began shooting at officers from a second-floor balcony of the hotel while three police officers returned fire. A short time later, police said officers found Peterson dead on the balcony.
The case is being investigated by HPD’s Special Investigations unit, HPD Internal Affairs division and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office. Anyone with additional information in this case is urged to contact the Special Investigations unit at 713-308-3600.
