Local authorities say they are searching for a man suspected of shooting and hospitalizing a woman at a home in Independence Heights last week.

The victim, 58-year-old Celia Hunter, was taken to an area hospital in stable condition, according to the Houston Police Department.

Police said the victim told investigators a male known as “Big Boy” came by her and her roommates’ home at 4118 Cornell St. around 11:45 a.m. July 15 because he owed her money. According to HPD, the man started to walk away when Hunter tapped him on the shoulder. He then turned and shot her in the chest and arm, police said, before fleeing the scene in a dark gray or black sedan with a paper license tag.

The suspect is described only as a Black male, HPD said.

Anyone with information in this case is asked to reach out to HPD’s Major Assaults & Family Violence division at 713-308-8800 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-8477.
