American Legion Post 560 in Garden Oaks

American Legion Post 560 in Garden Oaks is holding a food and supplies donation drive to assist victims of Hurricane Ida, the deadly storm that caused widespread flooding and power outages in Louisiana and Mississippi.

Ida made landfall Sunday and, according to the Associated Press, more than 1 million people were without power as of Monday. The area affected by the outage included all of New Orleans as well as other parts of southeast Louisiana and the western part of Mississippi.

Post 560, located at 3720 Alba Rd., is collecting supplies daily from noon-8 p.m. and will send them to hurricane victims in Louisiana.

The American Legion post is requesting the following items:

- Water and sports drinks

- Non-perishable food

- Food storage bags

- Manual can openers

- Matches

- Trash bags

- Disposable gloves

- Paper towels

- Toilet paper

- Cleaning supplies

- Flashlights

- Batteries

- Duct tape

- Rope

- Crowbars

- Chainsaws

- 2-cycle oil

- Shovels

- Body wash

- Shampoo

- Deodorant

- Toothbrushes

- Toothpaste

- Insect repellent

- Socks

- Sandals

- Rubber boots

- Diapers, baby wipes

- Baby shampoo

- Rash creams/ointments

- Baby bottles, pacifiers

- Feminine hygiene products

- Adult diapers

- Flushable wipes
