Houston police say they are looking into the shooting death of two men near an apartment complex in Greater Inwood last week.

The victims were 37-year-old Buenaventura Miguel Garcia and 33-year-old Eli Penaloza, according to the Harris County medical examiner's office.

The Houston Police Department said the victims were driving near the Asbury Park Apartments at 6200 W. Tidwell Rd. around 9 p.m. June 17 when an unknown Black male was seen shooting at their pickup truck as they attempted to get away from him.

The pair were both struck by the gunfire, according to police, causing them to crash into the apartment building. Police said the driver of the truck was pronounced dead at the scene, while the passenger later died at a hospital.

HPD said the suspect was last seen fleeing the scene in a light-colored SUV, possibly a Ford Explorer.

Anyone with information in this case is encouraged to call HPD’s Homicide division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-8477.
