A Tuesday night news release from Houston ISD said Crockett Elementary, located at 2112 Crockett St., was temporarily closing its third-grade classrooms due to a confirmed case of COVID-19 reported on campus.

Third- and fourth-grade students at Crockett transitioned to virtual learning as a result, according to the district.

The district said parents and guardians would be notified when the affected school areas could reopen. According to the district’s COVID-19 dashboard, Crockett has two active staff cases and no student cases as of Wednesday morning.

“This decision was made based on all the evidence and the totality of the circumstances in alignment with CDC guidelines,” the district said. "The school nurse will notify any student or staff member who is believed to have been exposed to COVID-19. Additionally, as outlined in the HISD Communicable Disease Plan, the affected campus areas will be deep cleaned and disinfected during the closure."
