Five Houston ISD campuses in the Heights, Garden Oaks and Oak Forest areas remain closed because of ongoing repairs related to last month's winter storm, the district announced Monday.

Instruction at all HISD schools was suspended during the week of Feb. 15-19 because of Winter Storm Uri, which brought freezing temperatures, widespread power outages and water-supply issues to the Houston region. HISD resumed virtual learning last Wednesday, Feb. 24, and most campuses reopened for in-person instruction on Monday.

But HISD said 19 schools remain closed for storm-related repairs and are expected to reopen later this week. Among those campuses are Scarborough High School, Frank Black Middle School, Hamilton Middle School, Durham Elementary and Field Elementary.

Durham, located in Shepherd Park Plaza, is undergoing water repairs, according to HISD, while the other four area campuses are undergoing heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) repairs.

HISD announced Monday night Scarborough, Frank Black, Hamilton and Field are among the schools that will reopen for in-person instruction on Tuesday. Durham is expected to reopen by Thursday, with students and their parents or guardians set to be notified by the campus administration if the school reopen before that.
