Houston ISD is introducing a new way to help parents keep up with their students’ progress as they prepare for the start of virtual learning Sept. 8.

The district said Monday it has launched HISD Connect, a new student information system, for the 2020-21 school year. According to HISD, the new system includes a “Parent Portal” that will launch next Monday, Aug. 31.

The portal is designed to help parents track their child’s academic progress by storing information on their grades, attendance history, class schedules and more. Parents will receive a unique access ID for each of their students, the district said, and be able to use that code to set up an account for their student’s profile.

“Collaboration between educators and parents is more important than ever as we prepare to reconnect safely and return strong,” HISD Interim Superintendent Grenita Lathan said in a news release. “HISD Connect will integrate seamlessly with online learning.”

HISD Connect can also be found in the App Store or Google Play. For more information on the system, parents can go to the program page on HISD’s website at HoustonISD.org/ParentPortal.
