Patrick Pham and Daniel Lee, the duo behind two popular sushi spots, including Handies Douzo at 3510 White Oak Dr., are gearing up to open a third sushi spot.

The newest restaurant is Fuku and will open up at 1902 Washington Ave., according to Eater Houston. The menu will be sushi-centered with core items as well as rotating specials.

The space is currently under remodel, but is expected to open sometime in the next few months.

Bar cancels “mask off” party

Concrete Cowboy, 5317 Washington Ave., planned to have a “mask off” party Wednesday that coincided with Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s lifting of the statewide mask mandate and business capacity limits.

The bar received backlash from Houston officials, including Mayor Sylvester Turner. During a news conference on Monday, Turner read an email from Concrete Cowboy owner Dan Wierck, which stated that it was never the bar's intention to encourage people not to wear masks and that safety comes before profit.

Turner said the email also read that the bar not only canceled the party, but would not open at all Wednesday.

“Let me thank Dan and Concrete Cowboy for recognizing the importance of what we’re trying to do,” Turner said. “We want businesses to open and thrive in our city, and I think two months from now the landscape will be much better than what it is today. I do believe it is too early now to take off the mask. It’s one thing for the businesses to be all the way open, but I do want people to encourage people to wear their masks.”
