A popular cocktail bar in the area has been recognized as one of the nation’s best.
Julep, 1919 Washington Ave., was named the 2022 winner of the James Beard Foundation Outstanding Bar Program at the annual Beard Awards ceremony Monday night, according to a Twitter post from the foundation. The bar is the first Houston-area establishment to win a national category at the annual awards ceremony, according to a report from Eater Houston.
It might not be the last award Julep wins in the coming weeks, either. Julep is also a top 10 finalist for Best U.S. Cocktail Bar by Tales of the Cocktail Foundation’s annual Spirited Awards, according to a June 2 announcement from the organization. Those awards will be presented July 25-29 in New Orleans.
“Thank you to my city of Houston, Texas for loving immigrants. For loving immigrants like me, like my family, welcoming us, and giving us the path to opening our own businesses,” Julep owner Alba Huerta said during the ceremony, according to a tweet from the James Beard Foundation.
