A local barbecue joint recently earned some critical acclaim.

Truth Barbecue, 110 S. Heights Blvd., was ranked No. 3 on Texas Monthly’s latest list of “The 50 Best BBQ Joints,” which was released Monday.

The magazine describes Truth as “transcendent.”

Owner Leonard Botello received the honor of making the Texas Monthly list once before in 2017, when Truth’s original location in Brenham was ranked No. 10.

Truth’s Heights location opened in 2019.

Houston Cider Company to host ‘Pumpkins & Cider’ event

A local cidery is hosting a fall-themed event this Saturday to help ring in the Halloween spirit.

Houston Cider Company, 1125 W. Cavalcade St., will have a family-friendly pumpkin carving and painting event from 1-5 p.m. as well as a pumpkin contest.

Winners of the pumpkin contest ages 21 and up will receive a $25 bar tab.

Pumpkins are free for children and $5 for adults, who can have their pumpkin fee waived by purchasing a beer if they are 21 or older.

Kids accompanied by an adult can paint and carve pumpkins for free.

Tres Amigos closes

A Tex-Mex restaurant in Garden Oaks closed earlier this month.

Tres Amigos Cafe Y Cantina, 3402 N. Shepherd Drive, shuttered its doors Oct. 9.

“We would like to thank all of our supporters and staff alike (who) have made this such an incredible journey,” the restaurant owners wrote in an Oct. 3 Facebook post.

Tres Amigos opened in April and replaced Shepherd Park Draught House.

Tight Squeeze Juice Bar debuts at M-K-T

A new juice bar opened earlier this month at the M-K-T development.

Tight Squeeze Juice Bar, 600 N. Shepherd Drive Ste. 456, serves handcrafted, cold-pressed smoothies, juices and acai bowls.

Tight Squeeze is open 7 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday.

Little Dreamer Coffee lands at Stomping Grounds

A kiosk serving specialty coffees opened Oct. 1 in Garden Oaks.

Little Dreamer Coffee, 1227 W. 34th St., serves caffeinated staples like espresso and matcha lattes as well as its own creations like the Moon Brew and Chocomoco.

Little Dream is open from 7 a.m.-noon daily.

Big Bite opens on Washington Avenue

A new Mediterranean food truck opened earlier this month along the Washington Avenue corridor.

Big Bite, 5335 Washington Ave., serves falafel, shawarma, gyros and other popular Middle Eastern dishes.

Big Bite is open from 5 p.m.-1 a.m. Sunday and Tuesday-Thursday, and 5 p.m.-4 a.m. Friday-Saturday.

Sunday Press launches in Ella Oaks

A drive-through cafe serving breakfast, sandwiches and pastries opened Oct. 1 in the Garden Oaks and Oak Forest area.

Sunday Press, 3315 Ella Blvd., is located in the Ella Oaks shopping center.

The cafe offers a variety of options ranging from breakfast tacos to hot and cold sandwiches, toast and acai bowls. It also sells desserts like macarons, croissants and cookies.

Sunday Press is open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. daily.
