A popular Houston-based donut shop with a headquarters and several locations within the Greater Heights has temporarily shut down its North Main Street location due to a positive COVID-19 test.

The Shipley Do-Nuts at 3932 N. Main St. left a message via its answering machine informing customers and the public that it would be closing "for at least a week" while its staff recovers from COVID-19.

In the message, the store manager did not specify a target reopening date, but said he wanted to allow his employees time to "get healthy."

It was unclear how many of the store's employees had tested positive for coronavirus.

During a visit to the North Main location Thursday, the store was locked and appeared empty. Cardboard signs with "CLOSED" written in black marker were taped to the windows.

Calls from The Leader to the North Main location and Shipley headquarters Thursday afternoon were not answered or immediately returned.
