Houston City Council member Abbie Kamin has launched the second annual District C Rain Barrel Sale, according to a Wednesday news release from her office.

The sale will take place Oct. 16 at Rice University Stadium at 6100 Main St. Each rain barrel holds up to 50 gallons of rainwater, the release said, and can help mitigate flooding by reducing water runoff, improve water quality and conserve water.

The latest local sidewalk project funded by the office of Houston City Council member Abbie Kamin, the addition of a sidewalk on the north side of East 7th Street between Arlington and Cortlandt streets in the Heights, will provide a missing link to the MKT Trail. But two nearby property owners wonder how necessary it is, with existing trail access points nearby.

The Houston City Council on Wednesday voted to increase rates for residential water and wastewater services, effective Sept. 1. The original plan called for a July 1 implementation. The city council also gave itself the option to reduce the rates at some point in the future if other funding sources for infrastructure become available.
