The driver of a pickup truck who fatally struck Shady Acres resident Ryan Lutz on the morning of April 5 was determined not to be impaired and released by the Houston Police Department, but officers who responded to a second collision involving the same driver on the same street later that morning determined the driver to be impaired. HPD crash reports also show that Lutz was legally drunk at the time he was struck, which was disputed by his wife in an interview with The Leader. HPD says the two connected crashes are under investigation.
