Gracelynn Alvarez

It was another banner season on the basketball court for the Heights Lady Bulldogs in 2020-21, and one of their main catalysts is being recognized for her efforts.

Senior guard Gracelynn Alvarez was named as one of 10 finalists for the inaugural Anthony Fields Award on March 2. The award was established to honor the Greater Houston area’s top high school girls basketball player.

Alvarez, who is committed to UTEP, was the Lady Bulldogs’ leading scorer this season, averaging 15.8 points per game and garnering a selection to the All-Region III-6A team. She also averaged 4 assists, 4 rebounds and 2.4 steals per game for a Heights team that finished 24-5, won its second straight District 18-6A crown and reached its second consecutive Region III-6A semifinal.

The award winner will be announced March 30.
