The St. Thomas Eagles continued to showcase their juggernaut of an offense in last week’s high school football game, and they're showing no signs of slowing down entering the home stretch of the regular season.

St. Thomas scored early and often last Friday against San Antonio Christian, shutting out the Lions 35-0 to move to 5-2 on the season and 2-1 in TAPPS district play.

Three Eagles wide receivers eclipsed the 100-yard mark on Friday, the first such time that has happened this season. Running back Johann Cardenas led the way, with 132 yards and two touchdowns on three catches in addition to his 60 yards rushing. Cameron Price (101 receiving yards, three touchdowns) and Joe Rick Madden (four catches, 120 yards) were also key targets.

St. Thomas quarterback Jake Wright completed 13 of 16 passes for 373 yards and a season-high five touchdowns. It was the fifth 300-yard game of the season for Wright, who has thrown 26 touchdowns against one interception.

Elsewhere in private school action, the Lutheran High North Lions picked up their first win of the season on Friday with a 60-0 victory over Alpha Omega Academy aided by a defense that forced five turnovers. Tiras McNeal led the Lions (1-4, 1-1) with nine tackles and an interception, while Daylon Henson and Aden Beaty also had interceptions.

Kamare Shorts had a sack and a fumble recovery, while Demarcus Grant had four tackles and a fumble recovery of his own.

Public school action

In public school play last week, the Heights Bulldogs extended their winning streak to three games with a 69-2 victory over Chavez on Saturday. The Bulldogs (3-4, 3-0) forced seven Chavez turnovers, by far their best performance of the season. Demone Green led the way with seven tackles and two sacks, while Dylan Harris returned a fumble for a touchdown.

Booker T. Washington dropped to 3-3 overall and 1-2 in District 11-4A after a 28-21 loss to Kashmere, while Waltrip fell to 0-6 with a 26-21 defeat at the hands of Madison. Scarborough is also 0-6 after a 57-0 loss to Yates.
