There are a couple of continuing events I want to remind you about this weekend.

The Space Taking Artist Residency by Fresh Arts concludes the 2021 residences with Stacey Allen and Saida Carter’s “A Single Thread Weaves a Future,” with an opening performance and reception from 1-5 p.m. Saturday in the upstairs gallery at Winter Street Studios, 2101 Winter St.

The performance features Nia’s Daughters Movement Collective & Live DJ Set, performing the “Zion and Beyond” dance piece inspired by "A Single Thread Weaves a Future."

“A Single Thread Weaves a Future” is a celebration of Black women who are revolutionizing Houston. They inspired the exhibit, which explores time and sustainability via the mediums of photography, dance and movement, fashion and literature.

Your chances of exploring the towering concrete grain silos and the amazing 22 art installations inside at Sawyer Yards are dwindling. This Saturday “Annex Energy,” the art installations by the University of Houston Grad and Undergrad Sculpture Exhibit at SITE Gallery Houston is open once again. Exploring the exhibits is free but to really entice you, there are a few performances this Saturday, too.

SITE Gallery hours are 3-9 p.m. at 1502 Sawyer St. Suite 400. At 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Jen Barker will host an artist’s talk. Make your own glass coaster with Michelle Vo’s workshop at 3:30 p.m. What is sure to be an eye-opening performance featuring Jacinta Majithia, Tippy Pipsquinks and Challenger is scheduled for 7 p.m.

In the May 29 edition of Art Valet, I introduced Linda Olivarez, a polymer clay jewelry artist. This Saturday evening, Olivarez will be joining a very full Market at Sawyer Yards. After losing her job of eight years due to the pandemic, Olivarez started her art business, The Abstract Olive.

The Market at Sawyer Yards is open evenings during the summer from 6-10 p.m. at 1502 Sawyer St. A few of the art studios remain open, but officially, Second Saturday Open Studios at Sawyer Yards is noon-5 p.m. Get details at sawyerstreetmarket.com.
